SARAH COHEN, M.S.

Sarah Cohen is a New York State Certified School Psychologist who earned her master’s degree in Therapeutic Interventions and an Advanced Certificate in School Psychology from Fordham University in 2004.  Throughout her career, Sarah has worked with elementary and preschool-aged children in various settings including elementary schools, early childhood programs and classrooms, and private practice. Most recently, Sarah has been working in Early Intervention providing therapy to children with special needs, in their homes and in schools.

Her therapeutic specialties are working with children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, social/emotional, and cognitive delays and challenging behaviors. Her approach to therapy is play-based and always involves meeting the child where they are and very often getting on the floor with them to “play” through what they are working on.  A very important part of her work with children includes partnering with parents and families. Sarah believes that empowering parents with tools and strategies to help them feel confident in carrying over skill at home, is the key to success.  She also specializes in Psychoeducational testing and school placement. Sarah believes in helping students thrive in the least restrictive environment.  She supports children through building upon their strengths and interests to help them work toward meeting their academic, social-emotional, and language goals and milestones.

Prior to joining Westchester Parenting, Sarah has held positions at Bay Ridge Preparatory School in Brooklyn, NY, The Cooke Center for Learning and Development in NYC, Important Steps, Inc. of NYC, and Theracare of Westchester.
